Can I Play the
GOA STATE LOTTERY ONLINE?

The Goa State Lottery is one of the 13 government lotteries in India that have been legalized. This is a paper lottery. You cannot play it online or buy tickets to any of the draws using a website. If you fancy playing the lottery online in Goa, world lottos are a better option.

You can play them online at genuine international lottery sites that either buy official tickets on your behalf or let you bet on the outcome of the official draws for the same prizes. The odds of winning never change and neither do the prize values.

This article discusses the Goa Lottery in detail, including the schemes, prizes, price of tickets, how to buy them, and the best alternatives online. Let’s begin.

An Overview of the Goa Lottery

The Directorate of State Lotteries was established in 1995 to organize a Statewide lottery. The objective was to uplift the poor and underprivileged. In 2006, it was merged with the National Savings Organisation to form the Directorate of Small Savings and Lotteries.

Currently, the Directorate runs 6 different lottery series on a weekly and monthly basis. You’ll find more information about these and their schemes below.

Golden Series

The Golden Series of lotteries in Goa offers 4 schemes for weekly draws and 2 for monthly draws.

Weekly Draws

The following 4 schemes are currently active under the Golden Series. Each scheme has 7 draws – Earth, Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, and Venus – happening Monday through Sunday at different timings:

  • Golden Laxmi – 4 PM
  • Golden Mahalaxmi – 5.30 PM
  • Golden Dhanlaxmi – 7 PM

Tickets to all of these draws are priced at ₹10. The schemes offer 5 prize tiers where the top prize would fetch the winner ₹10K and where the lowest win is ₹125. There is no consolation prize whatsoever.

How to Buy a Lottery Ticket in Goa?

There are only two ways to legally buy a lottery ticket in Goa – offline to play the state government lottery or online to play world lotteries.

Offline

If you choose to play paper lotteries, you need to buy tickets offline from authorized sellers. Head straight to the nearest one and buy your ticket for cash. You must immediately write your name and address at the back of the ticket to mark your ownership and proof of purchase.

Store your ticket in a safe place so you don’t lose or damage it. Remember, no prizes are paid out for lost or mutilated tickets.

Also, remember that it is illegal to purchase GOA lottery tickets via third-party websites that promise doorstep delivery of tickets in return for money. Such practices have been outlawed under the  Lotteries (Regulation) Act 1998.

Online

Since the online purchase of Goa State lottery tickets is not possible, you can buy tickets to world lotteries instead. All you need to do is find a legit site. For your convenience, we have listed the best international lottery sites in India on our website.

Follow these 7 simple steps to buy a lottery ticket online:

  1. Register with a recommended lottery site.
  2. Pick a lottery you want to play.
  3. Select your lines and lucky numbers.
  4. Add your ticket(s) to the cart.
  5. Proceed to checkout.
  6. Pay for your tickets.
  7. Receive an email confirming your purchase.

Which Is Better: The Government of Goa Lottery or International Lotteries?

It is safe to say that International lotteries outshine the Government of Goa lottery by all means. We have discussed the primary reasons below.

First and foremost, online lotteries are simply just better than paper lotteries. With the Goa Government Lottery being a paper lottery, you have to step out to buy a ticket and keep it safe till the draw is over and the results are in. These are major inconveniences.

Buying a ticket online is better because you get a digital copy of the original paper ticket or an email confirming your purchase of entry.

Either way, you don’t have to take up the responsibility of keeping your ticket safe from harm. You don’t even need to step out of the house to play the lottery. All you need is a computer or mobile device and stable internet connectivity.

Yet again, the possibility of you buying fake tickets is next to zero when you play the lottery online. If you take it from lottery site comparers like us, we list the most legit sites that are licensed and regulated by authorities of repute.

Never would they allow any site to dupe players. The same cannot be said about paper lottery ticket sellers. Fraudsters are everywhere!

Also, where’s the fun in playing lotteries where the lucky numbers are already decided by the organizers? Paper lottery tickets in Goa come with preprinted numbers on them. Online lotteries, on the other hand, let you choose your own lucky numbers for each draw.

Claiming a prize, too, is complicated when you win a paper lottery in Goa. You would have to submit the winning ticket intact as well as affix multiple documents duly signed by government officials. From copies of your ADHAAR to PAN, they need everything.

Online lotteries are simpler in this regard. When you win, you only need to verify your identity and banking details so the operators know they are paying the right person. There’s no running from pillar to post inside government offices to get documents signed.

The biggest benefit of playing international online lotteries comes in the form of huge jackpots. The biggest jackpot in Goa lotteries is ₹20 lakhs. Now, compare this to the top prize of any international lottery. Let’s take the US Powerball as an example. The minimum advertised jackpot is $20 million (₹150 Crore). Need we say more?

Goa Lotteries (Regulation) Rules 2003

The Government of Goa allows lotteries in the State as per the Central Lotteries (Regulation) Act 1998 and the Goa Lotteries (Regulation) Rules 2003. As mandated, the Directorate of State Lotteries is free to conduct paper as well as online lotteries in Goa.

Currently, the State has chosen to conduct only paper lotteries and agreed to announce the following information prior to organizing any draw:

  • Name of the lottery and scheme
  • Maximum retail price of the ticket
  • Total tickets to be printed
  • Total value of the printed tickets
  • Information regarding ticket sellers
  • Prize structure and prize value
  • Periodicity of the draws
  • Location of the draws
  • Process of payout of prizes

Ticket prices of any lottery scheme in Goa cannot be lower than ₹2. Jackpots cannot be less than ₹10K. Draws must always be held within Goa. No tickets can be sold in any Indian State where the government lottery has been banned.

Pretty strict, isn’t it? But despite everything, Goa Government lotteries come with several drawbacks and inconveniences, which have now pushed players toward international lotteries online. Are you still playing paper lotteries in Goa? Wouldn’t you like to give world lottos a try?
