How to Buy a Lottery Ticket in Sikkim?

You can buy a lottery ticket in Sikkim in two legit ways – online and offline. Wondering how? Read on.

To buy a ticket offline, you need to play the paper lottery in Sikkim. Head to your nearest authorized lottery ticket seller and pay upfront for the ticket you wish to purchase. Write your name and address at the back of the ticket so your ownership is marked.

Now that you own the ticket, keep it in a safe place so you don’t lose or damage it. Lottery players in Sikkim should remember no prizes are paid out for lost or mutilated tickets.

Furthermore, beware of websites that claim to offer doorstep delivery of tickets in exchange for money online. Such practices have been outlawed under the Lotteries (Regulation) Act 1998.

For players who wish to buy lottery tickets online in Sikkim, world lotteries are just a click away. Depending on the lottery site you choose, you would be buying official tickets or betting on the outcome of a draw. The prizes remain the same, whatsoever.

To buy a ticket to international lotteries from Sikkim, follow these 5 simple steps:

  • Register with a recommended lottery site.
  • Pick the lottery you want to play.
  • Select the line(s) and add the ticket(s) to your cart.
  • Pay using your preferred banking method.
  • Receive an email confirming your purchase.

Which Is Better: Sikkim Government Lottery or International Lottery?

The Sikkim Government Lottery comes with the approval and backing of the State as well as the Central Government of India. However, it still isn’t at par with international lotteries. The reasons are many, of which, we will discuss the primary ones here.

Firstly, the Sikkim State lottery is only a paper lottery. You cannot play the game or buy tickets to any of the draws online. This is a major inconvenience given we live in a digital world now.

Online lotteries, on the other hand, take away this inconvenience. You can buy tickets or entries as well as choose your lucky numbers without having to step out. In a way, you are just one click away from luck.

Secondly, paper lottery tickets in India must be preserved until the draw is over and the results are out. As discussed earlier, no prize is paid out if there’s no ticket. However, when you play the lottery online, your ticket or entry is emailed to you so you don’t ever lose it.

Thirdly, when you win the government lottery in India, you would always have a fixed window to claim your prize. If it’s over, you can say goodbye to your winnings. In a way, you have to be on your toes to check when results are getting declared and when you can claim your win.

Even if you are on time to receive your prize, you must submit the original winning ticket along with a heap of documents duly signed by a notary official. To avoid the hassles, play lotteries online where claiming your winnings is pretty straightforward.

All you need to do is verify your identity and banking details so the payers know they are paying the right person. Once the verification process is complete, the money would be paid out to your bank account.

The biggest advantage of playing world lottos is the size of the jackpot, which is always bigger than those offered by the Indian State lottery of Sikkim. Compare the minimum advertised jackpot of $20 million (₹150 Crore) in the US Powerball to the ₹19 lakhs in a weekly draw in Sikkim. You’d surely understand what we are talking about.

The Lottery Law in Sikkim

The State of Sikkim conducts government lotteries in India as per the Lotteries (Regulation) Act of 1998, the Lotteries (Regulations) Rules of 2010, and the Sikkim Lotteries (Prohibition on Running of and Sale of Single Digit and Private Lottery Tickets) Act, 1993.

Accordingly, the State is free to conduct paper as well as online lotteries provided it obliges to the rules. In the recent past, Sikkim conducted an online lottery by the name of Playwin, which was subsequently discontinued due to rising debts.

Currently, the State conducts only paper lotteries after preannouncing the following information:

  • Name of the lottery and schemes
  • Maximum retail price of each ticket
  • Total tickets to be printed
  • Gross value of the printed tickets
  • Detailed information about ticket sellers
  • Prize structure and prize value
  • Periodicity of the draws
  • Location of the draws
  • Process of payout of prizes

As mandated by the Central Government, ticket prices cannot go lower than ₹2 and jackpot values cannot be less than ₹10K.

Despite all the strict measures, the Sikkim Lottery system is still flawed and prone to unauthorized individuals selling fake tickets. To steer clear of such troubles, switch to online lotteries. They are safer, more convenient, and far more rewarding.
